The American-Israeli attack on Iran, day 16

General

One of the most intense days of the war. The United States and Israel carried out their heaviest wave of strikes so far inside Iran, especially around Tehran. Iran responded not only against Israel, but also against U.S.-linked targets and Gulf states - including Qatar, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia - while the Lebanon front also escalated sharply.


‣ Iran

The United States and Israel launched the most intense wave of airstrikes since the beginning of the war. Tehran Province returned to first place among the targeted provinces, with 48% of all attacks. Hamadan Province, with 12%, ranked second, followed by East Azerbaijan Province with 7%. Next came Isfahan, Fars, and Hormozgan provinces. In addition, U.S. forces destroyed 16 mine-laying vessels near the Strait of Hormuz.


1. Events:

◦ The strikes damaged 28 different sites and facilities. Targets included a Ground Forces airport (Isfahan); the Fourth Tactical Air Base (Dezful); the Kobraei missile base (Aran and Bidgol); an air base (Bandar Abbas); and Al-Hadid camp (Ahvaz).

◦ Medical facilities, educational institutions, humanitarian facilities, religious sites, and emergency service centers are among the targets granted special protected status under international humanitarian law. Over the past 24 hours, the following sites were hit: Ministry of Justice and court building (Hamadan); two schools (Gilan); sports hall (Arak); municipal warehouse, District 6 (Nowriz); medical center, Sayyed Khandan neighborhood (Tehran).

2. Casualties:

◦ Over the past 24 hours:

- at least 11 civilians killed and 22 civilians injured;

- no military casualties reported;

- unclassified (civilian/military): 14 killed and 2 injured.

◦ Since February 28, 2026, killed:

- civilians: 1,330 (including at least 206 children);

- military personnel: 1,122;

- unclassified (civilian/military): 613.


‣ Israel

The Israeli Air Force is attacking military, technological, and defense industry targets in Iran alongside the U.S. Air Force. In addition to the bombings in Iran, Israel is expanding military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iran and Hezbollah, for their part, are launching barrages of missiles, rockets, and drones, mainly at northern and central Israel.


1. Events:

◦ 2 cluster missiles fired from Iran toward central Israel over the past 24 hours caused several injuries and damage in Ramat Gan, Bnei Brak, Petah Tikva, and Tel Aviv. Israeli censorship prohibits publication of the exact impact locations.


2. Casualties:

◦ Over the past 24 hours:

- 6 lightly injured at impact sites in central Israel.

◦ Since February 28, 2026:

- civilians: 14 killed and approximately 2,600 injured;

- soldiers: 2 killed. No publication or details regarding injured military personnel.


‣ Iraq

1. Events:

◦ The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced that they launched missiles at Al-Harir air base in Iraqi Kurdistan. In addition, the pro-Iranian Shiite militia Kataib Hezbollah carried out a missile attack on Baghdad International Airport.


2. Casualties:

◦ Over the past 24 hours:

- 4 injured, all airport workers in Baghdad.


‣ Qatar

1. Events:

◦ Iran launched missiles at Al-Udeid air base, the main U.S. base in Qatar. A fire broke out in an industrial area after an intercepted missile fell there.

2. Casualties:

◦ No casualties reported.


‣ United Arab Emirates

1. Events:

After the missile attacks on Qatar and Iraq, Iran continued with a wave of drones directed at the concentration of U.S. forces at Al-Dhafra base. The UAE briefly closed its airspace due to the threats. A drone strike hit an oil facility in Fujairah, and a tanker anchored off Fujairah was hit, causing light structural damage.

2. Casualties:

◦ One person killed in Abu Dhabi by falling shrapnel.


‣ Bahrain

1. Events:

◦ Attacks on Juffair, where the support infrastructure of the U.S. Fifth Fleet is located.

2. Casualties:

◦ No casualties reported.


‣ Saudi Arabia

1. Events:

◦ Saudi Arabia intercepted around 12 drones over the Eastern Province. Reuters noted that the Saudi figures are more partial than those of neighboring states.

2. Casualties:

◦ No casualties reported.


Lebanon

Israel is intensifying attacks on the Lebanon front as part of the escalation wave. Hezbollah launched at least 100 rockets and drones toward northern Israel, followed by Israeli strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut and other Hezbollah-linked targets. Israel also warned residents in southern Lebanon to evacuate areas south of the Litani River.


1. Events:

◦ Artillery fire and airstrikes across southern Lebanon throughout the night and day, including on Khiam (claims of white phosphorus use), Saida, Sharhabil (several killed in a strike on a residential apartment), Nabatieh, Aadchit, Aaitit, Majdal Selm (5 killed), Qotrani (7 killed and 8 injured), Toul, Ayta ash Shab, Yater, and the southern neighborhoods of Beirut.

2. Casualties:

◦ 24 killed and 96 injured over the past 24 hours;

◦ Since March 3, 2026, 850 people have been killed, including 107 children, and 2,105 injured, including 331 children.
